Team India in Cricket World Cup 2011

The Indian Cricket team 2011 did not have many surprises in store. The selection was along the expected lines. Although the exclusion of Rohit Sharma and Sreesanth was an unexpected, shocking and controversial decision, Kris Srikkanth, chairman of the national selection committee feels that this team comprising of seven batsmen and three spinners have performed well consistently and shall surely bring the cup back home. Defending the large spin contingent in the team, he further added that because the matches were being played in the home grounds, the spinners are a major asset for turning the wickets. The inspirational Zaheer Khan will lead the pace attack and his pacer partners will be the trio of Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar. India's major concern ahead of the team selection was the injuries to four first-choice players - Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and quick bowler Praveen Kumar - but the selectors picked all four, confident that they will be fit in time for the tournament which starts on February 19. The other batsmen in the team include M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan.
