SEO Link Wheel Explained

SEO Link Wheel Explained

Just wanted to share with you guys an seo strategy that I will be using for most of my websites called a link wheel. It is an SEO strategy that is not new but has been overlooked by many. Take a look at the video above which explains the basics of a link wheel. If you don’t have time to watch the video above keep reading below. I go a little in depth about link wheels and how you can use them.
What Does A Link Wheel Do?
Link wheels involve using 5 or more unique web 2.0 sites with high page ranks and using those sites to create a backlink to your site. The “spokes” of the link wheel include a link to another unique web 2.0 site which forms the wheel. The “hub” of the link wheel is any page on your web site. This should be your squeeze page, offer page, or “money site”.
The concept of this is to have a tightly focused group of unique web 2.0 sites with high page ranks all pointing to your site. This will give your site authority and relevancy for the keyword term or phrase you are looking to rank high for in the search engine result pages. The focus should be placed on giving authority to one keyword phrase at a time to promote high in the search engine result pages.
Below are a few web 2.0 sites you can use to create a link wheel:
  • Squidoo
  • HubPages
  • WordPress.com
  • Blogger
  • LiveJournal
  • Blogsome
  • Weebly
  • Quizilla
  • Vox
  • WikiSpaces
  • WetPaint
  • Tumblr
  • DevHub
What Do You Put In Your Link Wheels?
Depending on the unique web 2.0 sites you use to build your link wheel you should focus on adding unique content. This could include articles that are focused around one unique keyword term or phrase. I like to mix mine up and put video content, podcasts, images, etc to give it more value.
Next you want to embed in your articles or in your content a few backlinks. Your link should be an anchor text of the keyword phrase or term you want to rank high for in the search engines. This link should be going back to your main hub page in the center of the link wheel. The next backlink should be directed to your neighboring web 2.0 property that is part of your link wheel. Look at the images below of some examples:

Here is another example of a link wheel but more complex:

What Do You Do After You Created Your Link Wheel?
Building the link wheel is the easy part. Now you have to promote this son of gun! Below are some of the things you can do to promote your link wheel after you finish building it out.
1. Capture all of the RSS feeds of your web 2.o sites. Mash your rss feeds into one unique url and submit them to the rss directories.
2. Ping your RSS feeds.
3. Social Bookmark each of your web 2.0 properties and the main hub page of your link wheel. Best to use a social bookmark exchange service like Lava Linx. This is a service where others promote your social bookmarks in exchange for you promoting theirs. This service is great and it’s free!
How Long Will It Take To See Results?
This depends on a few factors. One being your ability to take action and JUST DO IT! ( Note: this post is not sponsored by Nike)
Don’t wonder about “what if’s”. What if’s will not get you traffic. The other factor depends on the competitiveness of your keyword term or phrase. Of course the less competitive your keyword term the more likely you will show up on the search results quicker. If you are diligent with adding content to your link wheel sites and taking the necessary steps to follow through with this strategy, you can conservatively expect to see some good results in 60 to 90 days. That’s with taking massive action!

How Search Engines Work?

How Search Engines Work?
It is assumed that search engines start their crawl from seed sites. These are those websites which are manually identified to be most authoritative and trusted like yahoo.com, Microsoft.com, adobe.com etc.  Search engines follow the links on these sites to find other web documents (web pages, images, videos, word documents, PDF files etc) on the web. When a web document is found, search engines crawl it (i.e. parse the code) and then index it (i.e. store certain parts of the web document on hard drives located at different data centers around the world) if it is worth indexing. There are also different levels of indexations. Your document can be stored either permanently or temporarily in the main index.  It can also be stored in the supplemental (or secondary) index or some specialized index (like blog search, image search, product search etc)

Here is one thing to keep in mind.  Crawling and indexing are different processes. It is not necessary that if a search engine crawls a web document, then it will also index it. Search Engines don’t index spam documents or documents which are duplicate or very similar to other document. They use a link analysis technique known as ‘Trust Rank’ to separate useful web pages from spam. Search engines store semantically connected documents together in an index (database) known as ‘Latent Semantic Index’ (LSI) for faster retrieval later. I will talk about semantic connectivity in detail, later in the post.

Now when a user makes a search query, search engines first retrieve all those documents which are relevant to the search query from LSI and then sort them in decreasing order of their importance.  Both relevance and importance of a web document is determined through a method known as ‘Document Analysis‘ which consist of:
1. Semantic Analysis
2. Link  Analysis (or Citation Analysis)

Semantic Analysis
It is done to determine the semantic connectivity between words or phrases i.e. how words/phrases are generally associated with each other. For e.g. ‘Statue of liberty’ is commonly associated with ‘New York’. Similarly, ‘Agra’ is commonly associated with ‘Taj Mahal’. Search engines use different methods to determine semantic connectivity:
i. They use their own dictionaries and thesaurus.
ii. They use Fuzzy Set Theory i.e. search engines measure how words/phrases are used together or how they are used in close proximity and in what context they are used to together.
iii. Topic Modeling – Through this method search engines mathematically try to resolve relationships between words or phrases and if set of contents are relevant to a search query. LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation), LSI (Latent Semantic Index), LSA (Latent Semantic Analysis), pLSA (probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis) etc are all different ways to implement topic modeling.

Link (or Citation) Analysis
Search Engines do link analysis to measure the quantity and quality of inbound links (both internal and external link) and citations to a web document. It is also done to separate useful web pages from spam (Trust Rank).

How To Improve Google PR

How To Improve Google PR

Hundreds of pages are created every second of the day and there are billions of pages already existing on web. We mean to say that PageRanking is not as easy job as you think. It is a complex process which involves a lot of mathematical calculations and scientific methods. Google is one of the best search engines on which many other search engines depends.
PageRank is a method through which Google defines the relevance of a page. There are many factors that affect PageRanks but no one exactly knows how PageRank is calculated by Google. Many people have their own view about how PageRank is calculated by Google. Some says there is an equation that is used to determine the PageRank. The equation is PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn)) where ‘t1 – tn’ are pages linking to page A, ‘C’ is the number of outbound links and ‘d’ is a damping factor which is usually set to 0.85.
When we are talking about PageRank then we should keep in mind that all links are not weight the same when it comes to PR eg. If you have a web page which has 1 link then it will get decent PR value. But if you put 50 or 100 links on to the page then each link will get only a fraction of the Pr value. If you are not getting enough incoming links then you need not worry as it has no impact on PR. If you are frequently changing the content of the page and expect a positive change in the PageRank then it is not possible as your content is of no value when it comes to calculating PageRank. We must know that PageRank can’t determine the rank of the whole website but only of an individual page and high page rank doesn’t mean high search ranking.
If we talk about inbound links then each inbound is very important for PageRank. Although banned sites don’t need to bother as there inbound links don’t count. Effective internal onsite linking has a positive effect on PageRank. It is also a considerable point that the values of PageRank don’t fall in between 0-10 because it is a floating number. It is progressively harder to reach each PageRank level because it being calculated on a logarithmic scale like we calculate the intensity of earthquake on Richter scale and it is exponential in calculation. The mathematics behind Google PageRank is very complex which makes it a fair play.
Now after understanding all the factors related to Google PageRank we can say that there are many ways through which one can improve his web Pages PR. But none of the above mentioned factors guarantee you the number one spot because we have already said that there is no one who knows the exact method which Google uses to determine a PageRank. These factors are just research based and surely helpful to improve the PageRank.

SEO Tips For Google+ On Social Media

SEO Tips For Google+ On Social Media

With Google bringing out the Google+ Business Pages it is clearly understood by many that you will have a heads up on the Google Search aspect. While there is no such certainty what perhaps you need to do is take care of your SEO when you are working on your Google+ Brand / Business Pages.
What you need to look at and pay extra attention to is:
  • When you Post on Google+ make it a point to have the Public Visibility on. This option will be visible to you in your Conversation / Post section when you type your Post. When you make your Post Public you are informing the algorithms on the Google Search Engine that your Post is open to being indexed.
  • Your Circles in Google+ also hold a very huge cue on your Post being indexed. While you do need to have the Public Visibility it is a good idea to have your Circles also marked onto your Posts. The reason being that when your Post gets on the feed of your Circle Members there is a huge chance of their interaction as well. When they interact it increases your chances of being indexed and thereby your rank goes higher up on Google Search.
  • It goes without saying that your Google+ Profile needs to be complete with the right usage of Keywords.
  • Using direct Links from the source is always better than having URL Shortners.
  • Participate in conversations in Google+. This is again a criteria that increases your authenticity. Use of the right Keyword and no spam is the requirement that Google Search drives towards.

Keyword Density, Frequency, Prominence And Proximity

Keyword Density, Frequency, Prominence And Proximity

Keyword Density
Keyword density refers to the ratio (percentage) of keywords contained within the total number of indexable words within a web page.
The preferred keyword density ratio varies from search engine to search engine. In general, I recommend using a keyword density ratio in the range of 2-8%.
You may like to use this real-time keyword analysis tool to help you optimize a web page’s keyword density ratio.
Keyword Frequency
Keyword frequency refers to the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a web page.
The theory is that the more times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a web page, the more relevance a search engine is likely to give the page for a search with those keywords.
In general, I recommend that you ensure that the most important keyword or keyword phrase is the most frequently use keywords in a web page.
But be careful not to abuse the system by repeating the same keyword or keyword phrases over and over again.
Keyword Prominence
Keyword prominence refers to how prominent keywords are within a web page.
The general recommendation is to place important keywords at, or near, the start of a web page, sentence, TITLE or META tag.
Keyword Proximity
Keyword proximity refers to the closeness between two or more keywords. In general, the closer the keywords are, the better.
For example:
How Keyword Density Affects Search Engine Rankings
How Keyword Density Affects Rankings In Search Engine
Using the example above, if someone searched for “search engine rankings,” a web page containing the first sentence is more likely to rank higher than the second.
The reason is because the keywords are placed closer together. This is assuming that everything else is equal, of course.

SEO and Blogging

SEO and Blogging

There are some people who think that SEO's do not need bloggers or the other way around. The truth is, it complements each other making it a win-win situation for everyone.

It best to first explain what is an SEO and what is a blogger.

A SEO helps people find information on a certain topic. If the person wants to know more about gothic art for example, all the user will do is type in this keyword and a list of possible sites will come out.

The blogger is someone who posts comments on just about anything. The recent crisis in the Middle East is a very good example about blogging. This is because it gives the reader the opinions of both the Lebanese and the Israelis.

How do the two fit in? When a person posts a blog, the article is stored by the SEO together with other works written about it. The big difference is that people who read it can post comments. This provides interaction between the writer and the reader and continues to go back and forth because of the fresh content.

But blogging can only be used for other purposes. This can be used by entrepreneurs to sell products and services.

A good example will be a real estate agent who wants to rent or sell property. By putting up a blog site and advertising this through a SEO, the chances of getting more inquiries and having someone buy it increases. The person will just have to put pictures and a comment section so that interested buyers may be interested to actually see it.

The person will first have to put up a blog site before anything can happen. This means downloading a standard template or building a one from scratch. This can be modified later on with ads and other things but the viewer will still focus on the blog's content.

SEO's and blogging work hand in hand in providing people with information that is needed. People who are interested in putting up a website and taking advantage of the various search engines should always have the time and energy to make sure it is always updated.

SEO OR PPC

 SEO OR PPC
At the same time, the internet also poses a quite different challenge. The easy access that internet provides also gives you as much competition as you can imagine. It is too crowded and congested.

Having a website is not enough to make your business running and able to compete. You must take other alternatives to give way for the online community to access your website at any rate or chance possible.

You have to expose your website. Make it known. It has to be visible. It has to be frequently targeted by consumers and surfers.

Invest in marketing your internet site. There are basically two options available to you, the SEO and PPC. These two are probably the most desirable alternatives you can get for your internet business as strategy for search engine marketing.

SEO is the process taken to make sure that the internet uses will find your website when ranked among the top results of a search. To get a search engine optimization, you will have to build on your own internet site frequently hit internet links to web site pages. The process will involve IBLN or Independent Back-Linking Network, wherein hundreds or even thousands of pages will be utilized to promote a particular website of a client.

In SEO, there is no need for you to pay for the clicks although it will require you to spend time doing research to get a favorable combination of ads and target audience. ?PPC lets you advertise to the whole of the online community. It is also relatively easy to set up.

?At first glance, PPC advertising may seem very expensive. Could it possibly happen that someone out there will go on clicking on your ad? Networks are able to recognize fraudulent clicks.

?You can also set a budget for a certain period. The moment your budget has been used up by the target number of clicks, your ads will no longer be displayed until the next period you want it again displayed.

?You will also be able to adjust well to changes in market demands and trends.

Black Hat SEO V/S White Hat SEO

Black Hat SEO V/s White Hat SEO

White hat SEO is the angelic version of optimization, that is, it employs only techniques as recommended - or at least, not barred - by search engines and their ever-changing guidelines. Typically, results in the form of more traffic and higher profits take anywhere from three months to a year. With this type of SEO, there is no fear of your site being banned by search engines.

Black hat SEO, on the other hand, is the impatient fraternal twin of white hat SEO. It utilizes techniques specifically banned by search engines like hidden text and hidden links. Some call this spam. Others call it business savvy. Whatever you call it, if the search engine gurus figure out your game then the gig is up and you're blackballed. That means that you could type the name of your company and your name and business address into the search box and your site still won't come up.

It basically breaks down like this: White hat SEO focuses on marketing and the text on a site, updating with keyword rich, informative articles that benefit their clients and build a solid following over time. Black hat SEO focuses on technology and IT tricks to get a ton of traffic right away.

The important thing to consider is what your goal is. Do you want high traffic or do you want high sales? With black hat SEO, you may get immediate results as far as visitors to your site but do these visitors want to buy what you have to offer? If not, who cares if they end up on your site? White hat SEO is more interested in targeted traffic, attracting the kind of visitors to your site who are actually looking for you and are ready to buy your products or services. Over time, your traffic and sales rise together as you build up a following through word of mouth and repeat customers.

So what's all the fuss about? Mostly, the rules. White hat SEO follows them meticulously. Black hat SEO follows the numbers instead. Those who take the time to research and follow the rules are irritated by those who achieve high search engine rankings without taking the same pains. However, black hat SEO proponents point out that search engine requests are hardly laws and therefore doing what they like is far from illegal. It's in this discussion that the white hat and black hat merge to become a grey hat.

In fact, white hat fanatics might charge that those who write articles specifically to utilize keyword repetition are manipulating the system and are dabbling in black hat SEO. The less fanatical may point to links as a grey area. Search engines don't want links on a site purely to drive traffic. However, if links are related to the content on the site, then that's okay. But what about those sites where there are paid links that have nothing whatsoever to do with the content of the site they grace? Paid links as advertisements are white hat. Paid links purely for driving traffic, black hat. True motivation of the webmaster? Grey hat.

When it comes down to it, everyone who utilizes search engines in hopes of gaining top rankings are going to use optimization in order to climb to the top of those rankings. If motivation is the only concern, then it is an issue of politics that need not take up your time. Just know that if you use technology, link farms, and other banned resources that are designed purely to drive traffic and you get caught, you will be blacklisted from the search engine. If it's worth the risk to you, then do what you have to do. The choice is yours.
